On Thursday evening October 2, Lo Phillips sponsored two tables at the annual IDignity Souper Douper.  This direct ask fundraising dinner was marvelous, and many thanks to Lo for the invitation.  He even arranged for Pastor Billy to lead the dinner prayer.  The Church Street Ballroom was the best venue yet and the soup tasting contest “appetizer” was fun and delicious.  Missing this fabulous fundraising dinner doesn’t prevent you from making a donation or participating in the IDignity ministry we support.  Trinity members serve as volunteers at the event, preparing for the event, and following up after the event every month.  This is a God-directed ministry and worthy of your consideration.  Check out the following story that I hope stirs your heart with awe in God’s mighty works.

Client Story of the Month
Paul came to IDignity’s June 2013 event with hopes of receiving help to replace his lost yet still valid green card. He was born in Great Britain in 1960. Paul had served with the United States Marine Corps for four years overseas as an office machine repair specialist and was honorably discharged. At some later point Paul found himself on the streets and having a hard time without any of his proper identification documents.

The fee to replace a green card is a staggering $450 which was unattainable to Paul. IDignity asked the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to write a letter on Paul’s behalf stating his years served and that he was currently homeless. The fee was waived but the journey was still a long one. It took the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services nine months to process Paul’s paperwork.

In March 2014 Paul received his replacement green card and quickly noticed that many doors were opening. He will soon transition from a local drug rehabilitation program to the Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans program. He enrolled in a tech school to receive his welding certification, and was able to secure a Pell Grant with his new identification documents. We are thrilled to announce that the school recently placed Paul on its National Honor Society. He looks forward to his graduation date and the many opportunities for employment in his future.
