Trinity Family
From Pastor Martin
I wish you all could have been on campus for the excitement of Grandparents Day. Hundreds of grandparents joined CDC & K-8 students in chapel, in classrooms, all over the campus. As I have gotten to know more of our school faculty and staff this fall, I realize over and over again what a jewel we have in Trinity Lutheran School!
This weekend in worship we’re highlighting the work of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, so don’t forget your LWML Mite Boxes. Your small change, like the widow’s mite in the Bible, accomplish so much mission work! Watch for our “ladies in purple” this weekend, and please thank them for their faithful service. By the way, did you know that every woman at Trinity is part of the LWML just by virtue of being a member. Lutheran Women…on a mission…doing their part in hundreds of ways to help bring people one step closer to Jesus!
Another ministry note – YOUTH MINISTRY! I had the privilege of meeting with Laura Ramiz & Mike Miessler this week, and hearing their excitement about our youth and next summer’s National Youth Gathering. First thought: what a gift they are! Second: I am ALL IN for making sure we have a BIG GROUP of TRINITY YOUTH going to New Orleans next summer. I’ve seen personally what a life-changer it can be for a high school student to spend a week with 25,000 other Lutheran Christians! You’ll be hearing more about this before registration opens later this month.
Some of you may have heard this prayer in the weekly phone message: “Lord Jesus, you have blessed Trinity with amazing ministries at every age, from infants to grandparents. Keep showing us how to work together to bring more people one step closer to YOU! Gather Your people in church this weekend around Your Word and at Your Holy Meal! In Your name we pray. AMEN!”
Don’t forget the Church Picnic from 12:30 to 2 pm on Sunday, October 11.
Wear Purple THIS Weekend
A hat, a tie, a dress, a blouse, a shirt; It’s a celebration of LWML — Lutheran Women in Mission! All women (and men too) can help celebrate this special auxiliary of the LCMS by wearing purple to the weekend’s worship services. Purple was the special dye used in ancient Greece by Lydia, a business woman converted to Christianity. The LWML uses purple as a reminder of mission outreach, our Heavenly kingdom, and the importance of all God’s people.
Mites – Money that Changes Lives
Empty your change jars into a ziplock bag and bring it to church this weekend, place the bag in the giant box in the narthex, and pick up an small empty mite box or cup. If you have a full mite box, bring it and place it in the giant box then pick up an empty one
Those little cardboard boxes or paper cups generate millions (yes, Millions!) of dollars for international mission work. Locally, hundreds of thousands support food banks, build schools, help church workers with scholarships, provide transportation, feed families, and help restore hope for homeless men and women. What a mitey mite!
Trinity Voters Assembly Meeting, 10/18
The first regular meeting of the Voter’s Assembly will be held on October 18th following the 11 o’clock service. Agenda items will include the State of the Parish, Financial Health of the Parish, School Board and Leadership Highlights Reports. More information to come.
Thanks for the Goodies
Every Sunday in October, the ladies of Trinity will donate baked goods for our Sunday Coffee Hour. October is the month we celebrate the faithful and quiet support of women of the LWML. Your free will offering will support scholarships for our Trinity school students, for the women of Trinity attending LWML conventions and retreats, and to fund the annual shipping cost of 65-75 quilts for Lutheran World Relief. October 4 we recognize the faithful women of the Tuesday Morning Coffee & Tea Bible Study.
Trinity’s Congregational Picnic Returns
The Fellowship Ministry Team will host a picnic on Sunday, October 11, 2015 in the Courtyard following the 11:00 service. The lunch menu will include pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, baked beans, corn pudding, and drinks. Trinity members are asked to bring desserts in the following way: If your last name ends with A-H please bring a pie; I-P please bring a cake, cupcakes or brownies; Q-Z please bring a dozen cookies. A free will offering will be collected to help defray expenses, however, for anyone visiting Trinity, please feel free to be our guest, don’t worry about money or bringing a dessert, and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship with us! Of course, volunteer help is always needed. If you can help any time that day, we will be setting up starting at 9am. Tear down and clean up will follow the picnic, and will take less time with more help! Please email Wendy Havens at hvns87@gmail.com to help.
Got Shoes?
Everyone needs a pair of shoes and lots of people want lots of shoes. Some people want and need one pair of shoes. Our Trinity School children are collecting gently used shoes and NEW socks for children sizes 4-6 the entire month of October. We can all help. The cooperative effort of Trinity church and school members last year resulted in over 300 pairs of shoes. TLS teacher, Becky Lehenbauer travels to LaPaz Hondouras every November on a mission trip sponsored by Operation Barefoot. Shoes should be left in the hallway of the two story building along the wall under the stairs.

School Events need your Support!
Whether you are a staff member, parent, or church member, Trinity Lutheran School’s PTL has plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in our shared ministry events. PTL events like our first-ever Fall Pumpkin Patch and the HUGE annual Touch-A-Truck event connect our school, church, and surrounding community. These events not only raise funds to support our school (Infants to 8th Grade), but they draw big crowds from the surrounding community to our church! We need your help to make them happen!
Pumpkin Patch
The pumpkins are coming! Trinity’s first Pumpkin Patch will take place October 17—31. The Pumpkin Patch will be open for business Monday through Friday from 3:15 to 6:15 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. On October 31, hours run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trinity’s PTL is organizing the event, and all proceeds will be used to benefit Trinity School (infants to 8th grade).
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer, and we welcome church and school participation! Visit our Pumpkin Patch sign-up at http://vols.pt/nrS3iT to volunteer your time to help us move some pumpkins! This is a great opportunity for K-8 parents to earn P.R.I.C.E. hours. Stop by for a hamburger or hot dog dinner, live music, hayrides for the kids, a cake walk, and an interactive Halloween story performed by VPK teachers Colby Howard and Stacey Carroll. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and participate in a costume contest. It will be a great time for food, fellowship, and pumpkin shopping. We hope to see you there!
Touch-A-Truck – Saturday, November 14, 9a-1p
Chairpersons are beginning to coordinate planning for this annual event on our campus. Our success hinges on the active participation of all of our school families as this is the PTL’s major fund raising effort of the year. Are you able to help? The next planning meeting is Tuesday, October 6, at 6 pm in school room 103, the middle loggia classroom. Please contact PTL.TLCS@gmail.com. Volunteer opportunities available during Touch-A-Truck; PRICE hours for parents and students in Grades 6-8 will work to earn credit toward the cost of upcoming field trips to Driftwood, and Washington DC.
Celebrate Life
Only 500 feet from Orlando’s Women Center late term abortion clinic, True Life Choice found a building for sale. Good news and bad news. The bad news is an increasing need to help women choose life. But the good news was finding a larger building in a perfect location. The other bad news was a $7 million sale price for the building. But, the good news is Heart of the City Foundation purchased the building to house True Life Choice! Now come and celebrate! A reception on Monday October 12 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. will reveal the plans for renovation, explain volunteer opportunities and how your financial support will be invested to help the most vulnerable among us. True Life Choice will soon become Choices Women’s Clinic and begin a new phase in this ministry that is transforming our city.
