Your Weekly News & Updates

Whoa!  There's a LOT of GREAT stuff going on at Trinity Downtown!
Be sure to read it all!  Get connected, ask questions, plug in!
We're Installing our Senior Pastor Sunday!
Let's Celebrate!

This weekend we're celebrating! We will gather at 4pm Sunday for the Installation Service of Rev. Doug Kallesen, Trinity's new Senior Pastor.  Let's welcome Pastor Doug and Desiree Kallesn with a warm Trinity welcome this weekend!

No RSVP is required to attend the installation service - so please join us for this special service even if you weren't able to RSVP.  Free garage parking is available in the parking garage across the street, and nursery care is available during the service as well.

Welcoming Our Guests
Please keep in mind, if we have a full Sanctuary for the Installation, we may need to have some of our Trinity family move from the Sanctuary into the gym to watch the service live-streamed and projected onto the wall. Please watch for cues from the ushers, so that you can be ready if needed. If you are participating in the service, have kids are singing in the service, or have any mobility/health issues or have someone with you who does - please stay seated in the Sanctuary.  We ask that others please give up seats for those coming in looking for seating.  BONUS: if you watch the service from the gym, you get to be first in line for dinner!  Thank you for your help making sure our guests feel welcome and cared for.

Help After the Installation Service & Preparing for Renovations
Many hands make fast work!  We need a nice size group of people to work together to tear-down the set up in the gym and clean up after dinner so we're all set for regular operations on Monday morning. We also need some muscle to get the risers and other items out of the balcony and down to the basement after the evening's activities are complete - because renovations in the Sanctuary begin at 7am Monday morning. We just can't get it done without YOU!  You may want to bring a change of clothes/shoes. As always, we greatly appreciate your assistance!  Blessings.

Neighborhood Block Party!
Come out next Tuesday evening, October 3, 7-9pm, to hang-out and connect with our Lake Eola Heights neighbors. Bring a lawn chair and come make some new friends and visit with the NNO Caravan: Mayor Dyer, Police Chief Mina, Fire Chief Roderick Williams, NNO Knight, and McGruff the Crime Dog.  Shelton, the Miniature Therapy Pony from  #SoulHavenRanch  will make an appearance between 7pm-8pm that evening.  We'll be set up near the  Lake Eola Heights Community Garden.  Trinity's Outreach Ministry Team will be on site with an info table sharing news about upcoming Trinity events and worship.  #Loving our Neighbors

Sanctuary Renovations - Worship Schedule Change
During the month of October we're going to be giving the Sanctuary some much needed love and care!  Under the guidance of our General Manager, Eric Havens, along with a huge support team, we'll be making roof repairs, painting the entire interior, and replacing all the carpet. Due to these renovations, we'll be worshiping in the gym on October 8th and 15th, having services at 6pm on Saturday and on Sunday at 8am and 11am.... there's more, keep reading...

A Special Invitation to You
For just two weeks, Oct 8 & 15, between the 8am and 11am services we'll have an ALL-CONGREGATION fellowship time from 9:05-9:45 and one big Trinity family Bible Study group led by Pastor Doug from 9:50-10:50. We hope to have as close to 100% participation as possible in this fellowship and Bible study time with our new Pastor on those Sundays.  Please plan to be there!  (If you can bring homemade baked goods for Fellowship time on the 8th or 15th, contact Chanda at  [email protected] . Thanks!)

Oktoberfest is Back and Better than Ever!
Join Trinity Downtown in celebrating Oktoberfest and the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation on Friday, October 27th 5:30pm-8:30pm. This FREE community event will feature:  a Pumpkin Patch, with games, activities, pumpkin sales and photo ops; a Community Service Donation Packing Party to create Comfort Backpacks for children who have been removed from their home; and a Boisterous Bavarian Village with live music, reformation games/drama/trivia, market vendors, food truck & concessions, bake sale, a beer tasting, and SO MUCH MORE!  Visit  Trinitydowntown.com/oktoberfest for more info. We're going to need the whole Trinity Family on board to make it all happen - volunteer sign ups are ongoing - please review the list and sign up for what looks like fun!  We want to welcome our community onto the Trinity Campus for a festive evening of family fun!

"Comfort Backpacks" Thank you! Keep those Donations Coming In
We're continuing to collect supplies to create  250 "Comfort Backpacks" for children who need a little extra love and care while they are in transition from their home, to DCF, foster care or medical care in an initiative made in partnership with the Orlando Police Department, the Department of Children and Families and the Howard Phillips Center.  During Trinity's Oktoberfest/Reformation Event we'll be assembling these backpacks with the supplies we're gathering now. As you are able, please contribute the following items (collection in the church Narthex or main offices):
  • Small blankets,
  • small stuffed animals,
  • Toothpaste & toothbrush,
  • small toys for a boy and/or girl,
  • playing cards, crayons,
  • coloring books (Christian content preferred - the dollar store has some!).
Cash gifts are welcome also, and we can do the shopping for you. If you have questions or concerns contact Terry Boggs at [email protected] or call 407-488-1919 x101.

K-8 Reformation Walk
Who me?  Dress up like Friar Tetzel or Katy Luther?  Yes, you!  To celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Mrs. Tesch and Dr. Brockberg are organizing a Reformation Walk, a re-enactment of 10 events in the life of Martin Luther and the Reformation.  Actors and actresses are needed for this Living History Museum.  Contact Mrs. Tesch [email protected] or Dr. Brockberg [email protected]
to volunteer and join in on the fun at this upcoming special Friday morning school event!

Eleven Potential New Members to Connect!
We'd like YOU to consider being a Connection Point for a new member who is now going through the Foundations class.  A Connection Point is a Trinity member who is well connected in multiple areas of Trinity ministry, who will serve as a resource and "point of connection" for a new member just completing the Foundations class.  You check in regularly with your assigned new member, pray for them, maybe worship with them from time to time, answer any questions they may have, maybe meet them for coffee once a month for a few months -- getting to know them and then sharing information on upcoming events and opportunities where they might be able to GET CONNECTED at Trinity.  If you'd like to serve in this way, please contact Chanda at [email protected] or 407-488-1919 x101.

Rebecca's Garden - Tutoring Youth and Providing a Meal
The Pasta dinner was a great success!  Thanks to all those who participated.  Read more in the recent blog post . Tutoring and serving a meal to a room full of children is a rewarding experience. The kids love the 1:1 attention and really appreciate good food!! Organized by Trinity's Ministry Team, this serving opportunity is open to the entire Trinity family.  Check out upcoming dates and sign up here .  You can sign up to tutor, serve or cook and drop off food for pick up - or any combination of those things! You'll love it!

Law Enforcement or Military?
The Comfort Dog Ministry team is looking for an active or retired member of the military, AND an active or retired member of Orlando's police or sheriff's department to round out our team.  If you are interested, please contact Eric or Wendy Havens at [email protected]

Prayer Partners for our Confirmands
Jr. and Sr. Confirmation classes have begun for our youth. We meet two or three Sundays a month for lunch, class time and fellowship time. Deana Norris and Jenn Blackwood are co-teaching Jr class and Tim Norris is teaching the Sr class. There are 17 youth in these two combined classes. Praise God!

We would love to show our kids that their Trinity family loves them and is invested in them by connecting them with a Prayer Partner. A Confirmation Prayer Partner is someone who is an active member at Trinity and will pray daily for a student. You would send a note of prayer and encouragement from time to time and just get to know him/her. We will join together for lunch once or twice this year and of course look forward to First Communion and Confirmation.

We also are looking for someone who would like to host lunch for the group in Fellowship Hall.   Please contact Jenn Blackwood [email protected] if you would like to be involved in confirmation prayer partner or hosting lunch.

Brass Group at Trinity!
Time to dust off those musical instruments tucked away in the closet that you haven't played for a while or just tune up if you've been playing all along. We are re-organizing and expanding a brass group to play at Trinity for special services. It will not take a huge commitment of your time and you do not have to be a expert. You just need the desire to share your gift of music. We are also looking for anyone able to play kettledrums. (Timpani) Please contact Matthew Schroeder or Eva Newshutz for more information. 321-303-7824 or [email protected]

Volunteer Opportunities with Trinity's PTL

Save the Date:  Touch a Truck, March 3, 2018
Trinity will be hosting our annual Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, March 3, 2018.  Over the years this event has become a family and community favorite in the Downtown Orlando area and draws thousands to our campus.  Proceeds from this event benefit the ministry of Trinity Lutheran School, infants through 8 th grade.
