This weekend is "Bring a Friend" to church weekend at Trinity. Be sure to say hello to any new faces you see in worship! A personal invitation from a friend is the best way to welcome someone back to church, and that intentional relationships provide opportunities for connecting with people. "Can You Spare $2.00?"
For the past couple of Sundays, one or two of Orlando's chronic homeless men and women came to church. Unfortunately, their desire was to pull the heartstrings of Trinity members rather than feel God's heart touching them.
After you park your car and begin to exit the garage or cross the street, you may come face to face with a person asking for bus fare. Her feet are sore; she is only $2.00 short; he asked at the other church; he can't find anyone who acts like a Christian should. You are the one person God is using to touch certain lives as His witness. Always be aware of the opportunity to connect someone to Jesus with compassion and mercy.
Please DO NOT give money. It is tempting to pull the couple of dollar bills out of your pocket and hand it over so "that panhandler" or "they" will go away, but do not give money. There is no such thing as a one time gift. If you have it the first Sunday, then you will have it the second Sunday and the third and the fourth, etc.

DO listen actively. You will likely hear the same story over and over and over again. Be sympathetic, especially when you say you cannot give any cash. Be firm but gentle when you say "I am sorry, but I do not give cash. Our church financially supports Christian Service Center, Compassion Corner, and IDignity to offer your the help you need."

DO invite the person to come inside. Help him or her find a seat, hand them a worship folder and open the hymnal to the worship order of service. But, do not promise money or offer anything other than peace of mind for an hour.

DO offer directions to the Christian Service Center on Central Blvd. for a FREE meal. Sunday's the meal is served beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Daily Bread program was established at the Christian Service Center in 1975 with a goal that no person in Central Florida would struggle with hunger. Daily Bread has offered a free nourishing noontime meal to anyone in the community who is hungry. On the usher table in the narthex, you will find a basket with pocket cards that are distributed by Homeless Services Network. Carry some in your wallet or purse. DO give this card to someone who approaches you with his or her story. There is a listing of where to find shelter, where to find meals, and where to locate agencies that might be able to help.

DO learn how Trinity is working in our community to help our Lord's hurting and poor people on the edges of society. There are brochures in our tract rack in the narthex for all the following:
IDignity
- Trinity church was one of five founding churches to address the difficult process that poor and homeless persons struggle through in obtaining a necessary federally approved identification card. Without an ID,
no social services are available.
Christian Service Center
- Again, Trinity congregation participated in establishing an organization that now serves families and individuals who truly want a hand up. Case workers meet clients every day to help with plans for a fresh start. There is a food bank and clothing store available for anyone who will meet with a caseworker and qualifies for the hand up. SIX DAYS a week, Daily Bread serves hundreds of people FREE lunch. An intentionally high protein and carbohydrate meal is served free to anyone who comes Monday through Friday noon until 1:00 p.m. and on Sunday 11:00 a.m. to noon.
Compassion Corner
- This is a ministry begun by First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. Trinity offers a discounted rent for the small building located at 425 N. Magnolia. Monday through Thursday, Compassion Corner shares daily Bible study classes, a hot cup of coffee, and listening ears and guidance from trained volunteers. Donations of clean socks, reading glasses, and small toiletries are made available to anyone in need. Compassion Corner does not offer services or funding on a regular basis.
Good News Breakfast and Worship
- Organized by Central Care Mission and First Presbyterian Church in Orlando,The Good News Breakfast is an outreach ministry of Central Care Mission, and an opportunity for community volunteers to make a difference to the homeless and at-risk of downtown Orlando. Service time begins at 4:45 a.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. with clean up. In between there is a hearty meal and message of hope during a worship service for 150 or more men and women who have probably slept outside the night before.
Big News about a Big God!
True Life Choice (which is now known as Choices Women's Clinic) has found a beautiful new home for the ministry and believe this is the Lord's best plan for permanent headquarters. After a long year of pursuing and failing to acquire property on Lucerne Terrace, only blocks from Orlando's late term abortion clinic, a perfect site with room to expand and great visibility and presence is now available with minimal renovation needed. Please come to the Open House on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 1851 W. Colonial Drive from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. and share in the celebration of a great leap of faith with refreshments and tours. A 30 minute presentation about the exciting plans for expansion and building begins at 6:30 p.m. Choices Women's Clinic, a.k.a True Life Choice, is one of Trinity Lutheran Church's benevolences.

by Dr. Tim and Darcy Kimmel. This class will offer timeless and tested principles for grandparenting in the 21

century from two experts in family dynamics. This honest and Christ-centered study will motivate and guide you to develop richer relationships with your children and their children. The Life of Paul, Starts 9/18, 9:30am Sunday Mornings
This adult Bible study will review St. Paul's life and his important teachings. All are invited to join this 13 week study which will include dramatizations of a number of St. Paul's life experiences. The class will begin Sunday, Sept. 18th at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

The last week of this month, our Trinity Lutheran School teachers and administrators join almost 500 educators throughout Florida and Georgia who serve in our Lutheran Schools for their annual conference. They learn together and connect with each other, but also worship together. During the closing worship, an offering of

Some special people in our school CDC ministry created a prayer circle from a large wooden cross. It's amazing! The Prayer Circle is a way for the entire Trinity family to connect and support one another through prayer. A giant wheel with clothes pins make up the circle on the cross. Each clothes pin is labeled with a different part of ministries of Trinity Lutheran Church including school ministries, different groups of staff, classrooms, etc. We have each grade all the way from the infants to the eighth grade, the administrative staff, maintenance, kitchen, pastoral team, finance, music, PE, and Spanish teachers, and the congregation too (some people belong to more than one group, that's ok). Each week the group listed on the clothes pins will pray for the group on the inner circle. The congregation's prayer assignment will be listed in the prayer list each week, and will also let you know who has been praying for you all week. We hope this commitment to regularly pray over our entire Trinity Family will build a sense of community and unity as well as a growing awareness of just how interconnected our Trinity family truly is. We are GROWING TOGETHER to bring people ONE STEP CLOSER to Jesus! Thanks for participating.

Event Update
Trinity loves to host campus community outreach events! This fall, we hoped to relaunch Oktoberfest after a break for many years. However, after researching resources and then speaking with many amazing volunteers and Trinity Leadership we have chosen not to move forward with the relaunch of Oktoberfest this year and will instead focus all our efforts the 500
th
Anniversary of the Reformation coming in October 2017. The 2017 event will include campus wide participation, community outreach, neighbor relationship building and service events. This decision was not made quickly or lightly, and took into consideration, many factors. The greatest consideration was the current list of scheduled activities going this fall that ask for Trinity volunteer support. We have FIVE spectacular volunteer led events/fundraisers for Trinity's primary outreach initiative, our school ministry,
all in the next seven weeks
for which we ask church families to help plan/coordinate and/or participate in (Grandparents Day, Book fair, 15 days of Pumpkin Patch Sales, Sam Hoard Golf Tournament and our biggest event of the year, Touch A Truck, on Nov. 5.). We recognize, honor and appreciate the volunteer commitment made by all of our Trinity families and we know the great lengths you regularly go to in order to provide ministry and fundraising support. It is that time of year again and Touch a Truck is just around the corner. Join us November 5th from 9am-1pm (9-10am Sensory Sensitive Horns Free). Bring your family and friends to play on dozens of trucks, make new furry friends at the petting zoo, enjoy face painting, balloon artists, a live band and a performance by the Pound Hounds! It was a fun morning!
The annual "rally day" was super successful. Over 35 children ages 4-12 partied all morning playing games based on the Bible lessons we are teaching this Fall quarter. Every helium balloon that floated high in the blue sky had a special prayer card attached. Let's look for return cards in the mail in the next few weeks! Trinity Lutheran Church offers the best choice for children ages 4 through 10 every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. when children experience Bible accounts of making tough choices, Kings and Queens, and Conquests in the name of the Lord. Opening is in the church basement music room and pick up at 10:30 a.m. will be in the classrooms on the first floor of Heritage Hall.

What to be part of the success?
Two Sunday morning children's program teacher are needed to encourage the children's regular attendance. If you feel a pull on your heart to give 1 hour each week and share fun with 1st and 2nd grade or 4th & 5th grade boys and girls, please contact Lisa Warren:407-927-5140.
Urgent Prayer Requests During the Week
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to
[email protected]
. While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday. Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation. All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.

Virtual 5K to Support Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
You might have heard about the Lutheran Counseling Services STRONGER; 5K - a walk to support local crisis care and suicide prevention. Well, we are excited to announce that we have upgraded this event to be a
virtual 5K.
What does this mean? It will no longer take place here in Orlando at the University of Central Florida, meaning that people from all over our district and even country can participate! Grab a friend or two or three and exercise for a great cause! The cost to register is $25 per participant and $15 per student (through college). How do you participate in a Virtual 5K? It's simple!
- You will be sent a "bib" and shirt
- Walk, run or bike a 5K sometime between September 18-30.
- During or after your 5K, post a picture to Facebook or Instagram wearing your shirt and using
#Strong5K
Invest with LCEF and Help Earn THOUSAND$$ for Trinity!
Trinity just received nearly $23,000 from LCEF to assist our ministry! The check is the result of the
outstanding response
from the church, school, and CDC to open an account with Lutheran Church Extension Fund! If you haven't already, please consider opening an LCEF savings account. The more investors mean the higher the rebate check will be next year. Savings account investments start as low as $25 for children under 18 and $100 for adults.
If your child is new to Trinity Lutheran School in either the CDC or K-8 programs Trinity will donate $25 to start the account.

Redeeming Life Maternity Home is seeking a new staff member!
The staff member will manage living operations of the home; be a supportive and loving role-model to each resident by living out the gospel in everyday life. This role functions as a teacher, role model, advocate, and listener while overseeing the residents and enforcing rules and regulations. This is a full time overnight house parent position.
