Your Weekly News & Updates

Oktoberfest is almost here!  Let's celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation!  How's your Martin Luther Trivia?

Tonight! Oktoberfest/Reformation Festival
Come out tonight from 5:30-8:30pm to have some fun at Trinity Downtown's Oktoberfest and 500th Anniversary of the Reformation Celebration.  Enjoy family festival-style games, food trucks, a community service project to help kids in need, snacks, vendor shopping, and a mini concert of favorite hymns, and kid-friendly Bats in the Belfry organ demo for kids in the choir loft. In addition to lots of family fun for our Trinity family, this is a huge opportunity designed to introduce our community to Trinity and all of Trinity's ministries.

Come out and help us welcome our guests to Trinity!  Smile, introduce yourself, and meet someone new!

This is a FREE ADMISSION (but bring $$ for food trucks and vendors) community event and free garage parking across the street and all are welcome - so please INVITE friends, family and coworkers by sharing the FACEBOOK event on Trinity's page at Facebook.com/TrinityDowntownOrlando.

It's Reformation Weekend in Worship
Wear Red!

THIS WEEKEND - Fifth Sunday Collection
The month of October has 5 Sundays so we will be collecting food and funds this month.  Dry/canned food collections will take place in school offices throughout the month and in church on October 29th. Financial donations to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund to help those in need can be made during worship services or dropped off at the office (please write Pastor's discretionary Fund on the memo line of your check or on your offering envelope please). The collection will be donated to the Prince of Peace Food Pantry and will benefit our local community.  Start making those BOGO purchases!

We Love our Pastors!
This is the last few days of Pastor Appreciation month -- when we show our love and appreciation for our Trinity pastors; Pastor Kallesen, Pastor Glander and Pastor Schaefer.  Keep in mind we have two ministers in our congregation as well: Rev. Jean Claude Picard and Rev. Steve Schroeder. And we have some amazing pastors in our recent history as well: Pastor Zehnder and Pastor Martin! Our District Pres, Rev. Walton, and even our Circuit Pastor, Rev. Green.  Show your love for pastors you're connected to and let them know how much we all appreciate their commitment to God's call in their lives.

2017 Pumpkin Patch, Open Through October 31
The annual Pumpkin Patch is OPEN.  Volunteers are needed to help make this another successful event!  The money earned supports our Trinity Lutheran School families. To volunteer, please sign up through SignUp.com:  http://signup.com/go/pOyqzbD .  We still need volunteers this Saturday the 14th at 9am for unloading the pumpkins , Monday - Friday spots are available between 3:15-6:15pm, and Saturday & Sunday spots are available between 11am - 7pm.

Trinity Shares Christmas
Get ready to share Christmas!  Our tenth annual Trinity Shares Christmas tree will be in the narthex next weekend, Nov 5-6 with ornaments containing gift, food, and gift card requests. We are again working with Angel Tree Ministries to help incarcerated parents stay in touch with their children by providing gifts in the name of the parent and also by supplying food for a Christmas meal to the children's caretakers.

Please take one or more ornaments to participate in sharing God's love with these families.  If you attend the late service, don't worry that they'll all be gone - ornaments will be replenished after each service that weekend. Please return all donations, with the ornaments, to the cart in the narthex no later than Sunday, Nov. 26, and please do not wrap the presents or remove the backing from the ornaments!  If you have any questions about this program, or if you would like to help with deliveries in December, please contact Glenda Frazier at [email protected].

Mark your Calendar
F riday, December 1, is Orlando's Holiday Tree Lighting event at Lake Eola.  School students will be singing on stage, and the Trinty Family will hand out programs, and we will also have a team set up in the vendor area with an interactive project for families where they will create some CHRISTmas holiday creations filled with the message that Christmas is still ALL about Jesus! All the while they can enjoy twikling lights, some free hot cocoa and the hospitality of some new Trinity friends while talking about the true meaning of Christmas. We want YOU to be involved!   Stay tuned for details!

Lutheran Women in Mission -- Rally

We need YOU:  Supporting New Trinity members - Connection Points
We'd like YOU to consider being a Trinity Connection Point for a new member who is now going through the Foundations class.  A Connection Point is a member who is well connected in multiple areas of Trinity ministry, who will serve as a resource and "point of connection" for a new member just completing the Foundations class.  You check in regularly with your assigned new member, pray for them, maybe worship with them from time to time, answer any questions they may have, maybe meet them for coffee once a month for a few months -- getting to know them and then sharing information on upcoming events and opportunities where they might be able to GET CONNECTED at Trinity.  If you'd like to serve in this way, please contact Chanda at [email protected] or 407-488-1919 x101.

Law Enforcement or Military?
The Comfort Dog Ministry team is looking for an active or retired member of the military, AND an active or retired member of Orlando's police or sheriff's department to round out our team.  If you are interested, please contact Eric or Wendy Havens at [email protected]

Prayer Partners for our Confirmands
Jr. and Sr. Confirmation classes have begun for our youth. We meet two or three Sundays a month for lunch, class time and fellowship time. Deana Norris and Jenn Blackwood are co-teaching Jr class and Tim Norris is teaching the Sr class. There are 17 youth in these two combined classes. Praise God!
We would love to show our kids that their Trinity family loves them and is invested in them by connecting them with a Prayer Partner. A Confirmation Prayer Partner is someone who is an active member at Trinity and will pray daily for a student. You would send a note of prayer and encouragement from time to time and just get to know him/her. We will join together for lunch once or twice this year and of course look forward to First Communion and Confirmation.

We also are looking for someone who would like to host lunch for the group in Fellowship Hall.   Please contact Jenn Blackwood [email protected] if you would like to be involved in confirmation prayer partner or hosting lunch.

Chick-Fil-A Calendars
Chick-fil-A calendars are available to purchase on campus in the church office, CDC office, and K-8 office for $8 each.  The calendars come with a promotional card offering a free food item each month in 2018 (worth about $25-30 total). The funds raised through the sale of these calendars will benefit two groups of young people on our campus, the Grace Notes children's choir (for their performance polo shirts, sheet music and fellowship events) and the 7 & 8th Grade students (for their Washington D.C. class trip). Great for your family or as a gift for someone else!  Thank you for supporting our Trinity kids through your purchase of these calendars.

Free Concerts at Broadway Methodist Church
"Word on Broadway"  is a series of free concerts open to the public. Following each performance, a free will offering will be taken and all proceeds will be donated to a local charitable organization. All performances are on Sunday afternoon at Broadway UMC, corner of Broadway and Amelia, beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting approximately one hour.   Next: Sunday, November 12th at 4:00pm "Gleaning Florida's Fields - Feeding Florida's Hungry" Rollins College Choirs & Soloists Sing of Feed for the Society of St. Andrew.

Urgent Prayer Requests
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to [email protected] .  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.
