A Note From Pastor Tom Zehnder
Dear Trinity Family, I am pleased to be with you in ministry once more! My coming on board again for these days was not on my calendar but the good Lord has plans, and they are always carried out! I am humbled to serve you. I will be praying for the Trinity family, and Jackie and I ask for your prayers and support as well.
In these early days of re-entry, I have met with many people, attempting to get caught up with the vibrant ministry of this place.
I had good meetings with Eric Havens, our incredible General Manager, with Mike Kunze, Head Elder, and Ted Lange, President for congregation of Trinity Downtown. Chanda Gillenwater and Deaconess Liz Borth and I had good conversations about our ministry here which were helpful to me. I look forward to a conversation with school directors Kevin and Patty in the coming days. Chanda and Deaconess Liz have been a great help already. They are great partners in ministry.
My first official meeting was with the Board of Elders, a group of dedicated men of God who give solid leadership and stability in so many ways.
On my first walk around the campus, I made a few wrong turns with new walkways and campus pathways. My first stop was the K-8 classrooms of Trinity Lutheran School. Stopping in at each class room I greeted the teachers and talked a bit with the classes. I was deeply impressed with the atmosphere of excellence which is everywhere. Thanks to Dr. Brockberg for his leadership! I pray for the continued of growth for our K-8 program.
When I left Trinity's Interim Ministry in May of 2015 the new facility for the Child Development Center was not yet open for business. The day before yesterday I got a complete tour of that facility, the New Century Center, which is virtually in full use. Teachers filled with joy. 305 children singing, laughing, sleeping, dancing, parents smiling. Simply amazing. Thankful to Patty for her leadership and expertise! This ministry is awesome.
Congratulations Trinity! Walking out of the facility with a young mother who had just picked up her beautiful child. I asked, "What do you think of the ministry of our Child Development Center?" She said, "It is an awesome place. I love it and feel so comfortable leaving my child there with these wonderful teachers."
Youth, Confirmation, Sunday School, Bible Study leaders and teachers give their best for the sake of those who receive their ministry! The musicians play the organ, the choirs sing, praise band leads us in rejoicing! The custodians and care takers keep the place sparkling clean.
Oh awesome Trinity Sanctuary - a hallowed space! Since 1926 it has given refuge to God's people. From this place the Gospel of Christ rings out. The Sacrament of Holy Baptism has washed the hearts and souls of thousands. Surely tens of thousands have received the Body and Blood of Christ Jesus as this Feast continues to be offered at virtually every service held!
So much good is all around us here at Trinity.
The Call Committee for the Senior Pastor Call process will soon bring worthy Candidates for this Office. The congregation will decide, and - please dear Lord - the Call will be accepted!
A new chapter is about to begin. Lord Jesus be with us! Watch over us!
And in the meantime, I am pleased to be walking with you. Looking forward to our first service (again) together with you this coming weekend. Don't miss worship. Strange and wonderful things from the Scripture will touch our hearts. And by the way, it's time to start praying for the worship (sermon included)!

We'd like to thank all of our parents, students, church members and staff who made this year's Touch-A-Truck a great success by volunteering! Every year T-A-T creates an opportunity for many to make memories with their children. And of course, we could not have done it without the leading ladies and gentlemen of the PTL: Dalene Burnum - Chairperson, Anne Higgerson - Truck Coordinator, Cindy Wasielewsk- Volunteer Coordinator, and Karen Gentry - Finance. Thank you all so much! See you next year at the T-A-T!
Christmas is less than two months away! Our ninth annual Trinity Shares Christmas tree is in the narthex! The ornaments contain gift, food, and gift card requests for children of incarcerated parents and for the children's caretakers. If you attend the late service, don't worry that they'll all be gone - ornaments will be replenished after each service this Sunday, Nov. 6. Please return all donations, with the ornament, no later than Nov. 27, and please do not remove the backing from the ornament!
Do You Have an Attitude of Gratitude
Trinity Downtown invites you to participate in a 30 day Gratitude Challenge to encourage a daily focus on gratitude through the month of November (and beyond). Focusing on blessings instead of obstacles encourages a habit of gratitude. Communicating that gratitude spreads the blessing to others and encourages them to participate too. There are three components: Name it, Say it, Share it. If you'd like to learn more, go to
church.trinitydowntown.com/gratitude
It is Trinity's desire to teach little children the love of Jesus and so we support a Christian Lutheran day school program. Our youngest students begin in infancy to see Jesus in the loving care offered through touch and smiles in our New Century Center. Every Christmas, Trinity church intentionally collects money to purchase Beginner's Bibles for Toddlers and present them to our two year old students. For a donation of $15.00, we will continue our mission to nurture Christian character and bring children one step closer to Jesus. There are 60 children in our two-year old classes! Donation board is hanging in the Narthex.
