The voters meeting that was scheduled for this Sunday, August 6th , to review and vote on the annual budget, has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 27th after the 11am service.

Pastoral Call Process
Greetings Trinity Downtown! This past week was an exciting one for us! We had the privilege of hosting two wonderful pastors and their wives, which provided everyone an opportunity to learn about each other.

Pastor Wayne and Linda Braun flew in from Nebraska for a quick trip at the beginning of the week. They had the opportunity to meet our Ministry, Operations and School staff and learn about everything we have going on campus. Tuesday night we had a great turnout for the Town Hall and some excellent questions that allowed us to get a deeper understanding of who Pastor Braun is. The Town Hall was recorded and the audio of that session which is available here . They flew out Wednesday morning at 6am to continue their trek around the country.

Pastor Doug and Desiree Kallesen visited Trinity on Thursday for a full day meeting with our staff and to get a formal tour of our campus. Pastor Kallesen spent some one on one time with our leaders to learn about Trinity and all that we do. We will be having a Town Hall Meeting with Pastor Kallesen this coming Thursday, August 10th at 6pm. Come out and bring your questions! This is another great opportunity to learn about who Pastor Kallesen is and what God-given talents he and wife would bring to Trinity Downtown.

God has provided us a great list of pastors! Pastor Braun and Pastor Kallesen are both amazing men and we will be blessed to have either one as out Sr. Pastor if that is God's will. Keep praying for the Call Process, the Pastors on our list and for Trinity.

Blessing to each and everyone of you,
Tim Norris

August Bible Study Series @ 9:30 on Sundays
Through the month of August, the Adult 9:30am Bible Study on Sundays will be working through the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel and God's response to his prayer. We will also be listening to a piece of music called by the same title and connecting the Scripture to the music. It is going to be a multi-sensory in-depth look at a powerful story in the Old Testament. Please join us!  All are welcome.

Trinity's Children's & Youth Ministry - Sunday School and Youth Bible Study Teachers
Each time our church family welcomes a little child into His kingdom through the waters of Baptism, we promise together that "we will" partner with these parents in nurturing their child to come to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ.  One of the foremost ministries that we have counted on for our children is Sunday School and Youth Bible Study (our 6th & 7th grade youth participate in Confirmation instruction on Sunday mornings, 8th-12th participate in Bible Study) during the 9:30-10:30 Christian Education hour, August through June.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4.11-13)

Volunteer Sunday School and Youth Bible Class teachers do not need to be professional educators. In fact, the adults who most profoundly influenced my own (Julia Malenke) faith development as a child and youth held full time jobs in business, construction, finance, and administration.  It was their passion for Christ and transparency in sharing personal stories about what it means to live with integrity, wrapped around the Word of God, that motivated me to keep learning and to follow their examples.

Trinity is in need of additional Sunday School teachers, specifically a 1-2 nd Grade teacher and a 8-12 th Grade teacher.  We are in our second year of using an excellent, online curriculum (PreK4 - 5 th Grade) which allows each teacher to choose activities that most closely fit their strengths and the learning styles of their students.  Each Sunday morning, we begin at 9:30 a.m. with an Opening in the basement where we sing praise songs, share prayer needs, and introduce the Bible topic with a fun object lesson (presented by the Sunday School Director).  Teachers and students then head for their classrooms where they have between 35-45 minutes to develop the Bible lesson with videos, games, Bible study, crafts, etc. Typically, Sunday School teachers spend about 1-2 hours each week preparing for class and are with the children about 90 minutes on Sunday mornings.

Training and mentoring will be provided for anyone who has a heart for being part of this vital ministry focused on the spiritual development of young hearts and minds.  For those interested in teaching our High School youth, there will be an excellent workshop provided locally (Sept.16, 9am-12pm) to help equip and encourage you as you come alongside these students.
We don't want to disappoint any students by not having a class available for their age level. If you are feeling the Holy Spirit tug on your heart as you prayerfully consider being part of Trinity's Sunday School team, please contact Julia Malenke at [email protected].

Blessing of the Backpacks and Dedication of All Teachers
At all services August 12 & 13 we will be blessing backpacks and dedicating all those who serve as teachers in various school systems in our community, including Trinity's teachers, preparing to begin a new school year!  Our CDC families and teachers will join worship Saturday evening after their open house activities, and our K-8 families will join us at the 11am worship service before their Open House activities.  Be sure to pack those backpacks in the car before you head to church - so kids can bring them up and have them blessed during the service!

Senior Pastor Call - Special Voters Meeting
By Sunday, August 20th, the Senior Pastor Call Committee will have a final recommendation for the Trinity Family and will ask the congregation to vote on the individual we will call as our new Senior Pastor.  Please mark your calendars and plan to gather after the 11am worship service, about 12:15 for this Special Voters Meeting.  Thank you.

Rally Day, Sunday School Kick-Off
Trinity will be recognizing the official beginning of our fall Sunday School and Bible classes on Sunday, August 27, with a special Rally Day celebration.  All Sunday classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the children meeting for opening in the church basement music room and the adults gathering in the fellowship hall. Adult Bible study and Sunday School teachers will be installed in the 11:00 a.m. service.   (Due to scheduling needs for the budget meeting the picnic previously scheduled for the 27th will be rescheduled for October)

Trinity's Music Ministry
Trinity is currently accepting applications for a Contemporary Worship Leader for 9:30am as well as for an Organist for the 8am & 11am worship services.  Those job postings are being advertised publicly on multiple forums and can be found easily by searching on Indeed.com for Trinity Lutheran Church, Orlando.

Loving our Neighbors
Trinity will host a bake sale to support our friends at Handy Pantry on Amelia St. The owners have both been challenged by medical issues and have had to close their store on multiple occasions and we're reaching out to provide some neighborly support.  The bake sale will be held on Saturday, August 26 from 9am to 11am.  YOUR support would be greatly appreciated.  Please send in freshly home-baked goods wrapped for resale Friday during business hours or Saturday morning at 8am to the Magnolia Building kitchen. If you have questions, please contact Terry at 407-797-7345 or [email protected] .

Flood Buckets
We're partnering with the FL-GA District in the Flood Bucket Challenge.  When a flood strikes, the LCMS Disaster Response ministry sends our volunteer support and flood buckets to aid in relief efforts. Each bucket contains essential supplies needed for clean-up after a flood. Our goal is to provide 10 completed buckets to support this effort.  Please visit the Narthex to see what supplies you can donate to contribute to completing the Flood Buckets from Trinity.  Thank you.

Headed off to College?
Many students are heading off to college for the first time or returning to continue their education.  The Florida Georgia District has a form that students and parents can use to help our campus ministries get in touch with these students. Simply  go to this web link - http://flgadistrict.org/campus-ministries/ and scroll to the bottom of the page. This form will allow you to provide helpful information that will put your college students in touch with one of these wonderful campus ministries or a nearby church .  Please take a few minutes to help connect these students to Jesus on campus!

LiveUCF Gala
"Saturday Night Live: An Annual Gala Supporting LiveUCF" is going to be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 6pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  LiveUCF is a church on the campus of the University of Central Florida that is supported by local congregations. Tickets are $40 and will include a plated meal, open bar, a silent auction and guest speaker: Tom Eggebrecht, author of Fully and Creatively Alive and pastor at Ascension Lutheran in Casselberry (tomeggebrecht.com). Join us for an evening of creativity in support of LiveUCF.  Tickets can be purchased at http://www.liveucf.org/gala/ or you can contact Laura Blank - [email protected]. Table sponsorships are also available.  Please contact Meridith Swanson for more information - [email protected].

Urgent Prayer Requests
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to [email protected] .  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.

$61,000!  Invest with LCEF and Save Trinity money!
We just received our most recent rebate check from LCEF - for just over $61,000!  Thank you to all those who have invested/saved/set up Youth accounts with LCEF.  It makes a difference!  If you haven't already, please consider opening an LCEF savings account.  The more investors mean the higher the rebate check will be next year.  Savings account investments start as low as $25 for children under 18 and $100 for adults.   If your child is new to Trinity Lutheran School in either the CDC or K-8 programs Trinity will donate $25 to start the account.  Adult investment accounts with LCEF benefit Trinity in the same way the Youth Investor accounts do, so parents and church members, you can participate as well!  You can apply online at LCEF.org .  For more information, please contact Bruce Hahn at 407-701-3234 or email [email protected] .

Missionary Update - Young Family
Greetings from Irenga, Tanzania. Our family is in the mountains at River Valley Camp for an intensive language training in Swahili. You may wonder..."Why do you go to Tanzania to learn the language you will speak in Kenya?"  You can read more about their work here.  Prayer requests:
  • Thank God for the mission trips happening around the world this summer. May God be glorified in all that is done.
  • Pray for the children, families, and teachers at Karama Academy in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Ask God to prevail over the elections in Kenya - that they be peaceful and calm.
  • Ask God to be with our East Africa team as folks travel different places while they serve.
  • Lift up Krista's dad, Richard Adler and our family as we grieve the loss of our Grandma, and Mom.
  • Thank God for safe travels and good reunions as our family traveled to the US.
  • Thank God for faithful and generous partners who support us through prayer.
Please let us know!
Please let your Trinity family know of any scheduled surgery or hospital stay.  In addition to scheduled procedures, please give the church office a call to let us know about extended illness, unplanned hospital stays, or even the birth of a child.  You can call the office at any time and leave a message-no need to wait until business hours (407-488-1919 x101).  During business hours, that information can then be forwarded to the appropriate caregivers.  For an emergency that requires the care of a Pastor after hours or over the weekend call or text us at 407-490-7339 and leave a message.  We'll get back to you ASAP. We want to be sure to know when you need us-whether to pray with you before a scheduled procedure, sit with you during a loved one's procedure, pray for you while you recover, visit you in the hospital/at home or to share praise and thanksgiving prayers for good news/results. Just let us know.  Thank you.
