2018-2019 Stewardship Drive:
Giving from the Heart ~ Motivated by God
This weekend we kick off our annual stewardship drive. You will soon receive information in the mail* with your annual pledge card, and will hear weekly sermon messages specific to Stewardship: Giving from the Heart - Motivated by God . Together we are encouraged to rise to a challenge to make one step in growth in our giving of time, talent and treasure - from wherever you are now, moving just one step further. Below is a chart that represents possible growth steps in weekly giving.  Addition information on next steps for time and talent will be provided in the weeks to come.

*If for some reason you do not receive the Stewardship mailing at your home address, please contact the office at 407-488-1919 x101 or TLC@TrinityDowntown.com and we will update your records and send you a copy immediately.

This Weekend: Food and Funds on the Fifth
Please place your food donations in the shopping cart in the Narthex. Donations this month will go to Second Harvest Food Bank. Funds are also collected on Fifth Sundays to replenish the Pastor's Discretionary Fund which serves to support those in financial crisis. THANK  YOU for your support in these areas.

THANK YOU for Sharing the Gospel with our VPK Families
Update: We exceeded our goal and have raised $1,678 for TLS Student Bibles all thanks to YOUR generous contributions! 78 VPK students will be graduating from Trinity Lutheran School's CDC at the end of May - and each of them will take with them a Beginner's Bible! It is a Trinity tradition for the congregation to purchase Beginning Bibles for all of these little ones as they graduate from VPK and move on to Kindergarten.  Some will stay at Trinity and some will move on to other schools and won't be a part of the Trinity community as they have been for so many years. Trinity's congregation members are dedicated to Christian education and congratulate these youngest students by presenting a Beginner's Bible at their VPK graduation. We want to bless each of them with our prayers and with the precious Word of God as they learn and grow. The overage collected from your generous donations will be used to provide all new incoming Kindergarteners with a Beginners Bible at the start of the school year!   THANK YOU!

Reaching out to Orlando's Homeless
Servant Saturday for the WHOLE TRINITY FAMILY!
On Saturday, May 19th, from 9-11am (optional lunch together afterward) volunteers from throughout our Trinity family are invited to participate in a fantastic opportunity to reach out to our homeless neighbors AND to learn from some of our local ministry partners who serve to meet the needs of Orlando's homeless day in and day out!   We'll be serving with, and receiving training from, staff from the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness and the HOPE Team ! THIS is an opportunity you don't want to miss!!

Our volunteers are engaged specifically as an extension of the Downtown Orlando H.O.P.E. Team (Homeless Outreach Partnership Effort), which is a group of full-time outreach staff who actively engage and serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness. You may have seen them in red shirts talking to people out in our area. The H.O.P.E. Team builds relationships with individuals and families so that they can direct those individuals to appropriate service providers. The goal of this initiative is to make homelessness rare, brief, and one-time.

Volunteers will receive training from staff at the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness and the H.O.P.E. Team, and be part of a group directly engaging with folks downtown experiencing homelessness.  The CFCOH provide refreshments for volunteers, and will gather everyone together after the experience briefly to share thoughts and insights.

You must be 18 or older to participate .  If we have some youth who want to help out, we can have a second group (also for anyone who can't be out in the heat) who can assemble hygiene kits with toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and personal notes in the office during this same time frame.

SIGN UP NOW, as space is limited. There are sign up forms in the school offices and the Church narthex, or you can contact Chanda at TLC@TrinityDowntown.com or 407-488-1919 x101 with your name, email and cell phone number or sign up online at https://goo.gl/forms/TzrNgcEMi6HvLjm82 .  You may also receive a call or email from team members of the volunteer Outreach Ministry Team who will be helping to recruit participants.  If you've already registered, just let them know!

Lay Leadership Elections
Christ's blessings & peace! Brother Ted has appointed me to chair this year's Nomination Committee. I wanted you to know who your Nominating committee folks are and bring you a short update! The committee consists of: Pastor Doug, Sr. Elder Tom Finger, Maggie Bowles, Mary Beth Brink, Kelley Lane and me. Please thank these folks for their service when you see them. Our task is straight forward this year. Only 2 positions are up for the Leadership Council Members at Large (odd years), Tim Norris and Gregg Yawman.  Both are eligible for another term. There are also some Elder position that will need filling. Please be sure to get your nominations submitted as soon as you can via email to nomcom@trinitydowntown.com or notify any Leadership Council Member for Leadership and Pastor or Tom for any Elder nominations. You can of course also let any committee member know as well or the Church Office.

There has been some questions recently about whether or not multiple nominations for the same position are allowed. Of course they are! The best elections have multiple voting opportunities for any position. Without this, elections could be rubber stamped and redundant. So, I encourage you to pray about the two LC and Elder positions and who you think should be nominated. Please submit these names soon. God's blessings for your efforts and support.  JBWYA! Respectfully, Gregg Yawman, NomCom Chair

Baby Bottle Fundraising for Redeeming Life
The Baby Bottle Fundraising Campaign for Redeeming Life Maternity Home starts on Mothers Day and runs through Fathers Day! In celebration of life, Trinity members have the opportunity to partner with Redeeming Life Maternity Home as they reach out to pregnant women in crisis.  Redeeming Life provides critical services to expectant mothers and their unborn children by giving them hope and an opportunity for a bright future.  The home provides residents, some of whom believe that their only option is abortion, a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered home. At Redeeming Life they experience, many for the first time, what it means to love and to be loved in Christ, while learning to support themselves and their child. It's easy to participate. Just pick up a baby bottle at one of the exits on Mothers Day and fill it with coins, cash or a check over the coming weeks. Bring it back to church on Fathers Day and know that your generosity is making a huge difference for the women and babies being served at Redeeming Life!

Urgent Prayer Requests
If you have an urgent prayer request that can't wait until you fill out a yellow prayer card during worship, please submit it via email to Pray@TrinityDowntown.com .  While submitting a yellow card during worship is still the preferred way to share prayer requests, sometimes a prayer need can't wait until Sunday.  Your prayer request (first name and basic details of the prayer requested) will be shared with a team of committed weekday prayer warriors and will also be added to Trinity's regular printed prayer list for the congregation.  All prayers are kept on the printed list for a period of three weeks, so please resubmit long term prayer needs regularly so that they stay on the printed list. Thank you.
